I am often saying at Club about the need for us to use the Resound Club Blog more often.

That way we can maybe see more photos we are taking that perhaps sit outside of the normal composition challenges and the Inter Club Competition. And whilst I often try to encourage use of this I realise I haven't posted anything recently myself - not good.

So this will be an attempt to put that right. Meanwhile I should acknowledge Neil and Manni who have been more active on here - thank you both. In fact I think Manni might even - when he gets the time - treat us to some Bear shots that he took earlier this year. I can't remember where he went to take these or whether he just stayed home and used his back garden! Either way it would be good to see these when time permits.

So for me here are some 2026 photos that I've taken - mostly orientated around sport which is my favourite photography genre. All of these shots are taken in Manual mode.

And to lead off here are 4 photos taken with my D500 DSLR (crop sensor) - a camera I've had for about 9 years - and one that I always enjoy using.

Here are the shooting details of each shot going from the top left , top right, bottom left and lastly bottom right - all of these shot with a Nikon 200mm-500mm F5.6 lens:

  • 350mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 400 and exposure compensation -0.3

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 640

  • 480mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 640

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 640 and exposure compensation -0.3

Let's mix these up now with a different form of transport - balloons! Two of these were taken in February on our Club Bristol Lights night out and the other 2 were taken from my house as balloons sometimes fly over. You always hear that whoosing noise as they go. These 2 were shot with my Nikon D750 DSLR (full frame).

The settings for these 2 - both handheld because as usual I was carrying my tripod but didn't use it all night! The top image was using a Nikon 35mm Prime F1.8 lens with the following settings 35mm, F4, 1/80, ISO 3200. The second image using the same lens F4, 1/125, ISO 3200.

Time now for two more Castle Combe shots using my D500 and with the same lens as mentioned above:

Look at that lovely old MG taken on a dreary morning with drizzle and headlights blazing away shown here alongside something more modern and powerful. Settings for these 2 left to right were:

  • 420mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO1600

  • 420mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 800

And the last 2 balloon shots taken with my D500 on the 1 May 2026 using the Nikon 200mm - 500mm F5.6 lens follow:

Shot details left to right were:

  • 290mm, F5.6, 1/2000, ISO 640

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/2500, ISO 640

Now I will finish off with 4 more from Castle Combe 2026 all taken with my Nikon D850 DSLR using a Nikon 500mm F.6 PF Prime lens:

Again look at that lovely old MG. Proper old cars. And still running very well around Castle Combe even if at a more sedate pace than other vehicles that day. Settings for these shots going from the top left, top right, bottom left and lastly bottom right were:

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 640 and exposure compensation of -0.3

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 1000

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 1000

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 250

And a final 2 shots from Castle Combe using the Nikon D850 and 500mm F5.6 PF Prime lens:

Settings for these 2 shots were identical:

  • 500mm, F5.6, 1/1600, ISO 800

I thought it rather good that I could make the last shot a photo of the back of a car!

Anyway that's it for this blog. I hope you will enjoy it but more importantly I hope you will have a go and post something yourself. I will try and do another post in June - maybe showing a few of my Badminton 2026 Cross Country Day shots.
